Everspace 2 is a perfect blend of an arcade shooter and space-looting action RPG, but not without its flaws. While a massive departure from the first Everspace game, if you're nostalgic for classics like Freelancer and want a story that would fit perfectly into a 90s action sci-fi movie, this is the game for you.

Discover alien species, unveil mysteries, find hidden treasures, and defend your cargo against outlaw gangs in an exciting 30-hour campaign. Completionists can dive deep into the EVERSPACE universe and spend more than 90 hours to complete every side mission, finish every challenge, and discover every hidden secret.

On PlayStation 5, EVERSPACE 2 will take full advantage of DualSense controller haptic feedback, adaptive trigger, and speaker features, tying gameplay with in-hand response. In addition, Series X and PlayStation 5 players can look forward to exploring the star systems of EVERSPACE 2 in 4K 60 FPS.

Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.

Everspace 2 doesn't always take place in space either because there are some levels where you get to visit different planets too. You never get to land on planets and explore on foot, but I do admire the change in scenery when you do some missions in the game.

There is basically an "overworld" map which is light speed travel. Its blended very well with the game and it feels immersive so I would definitely call it a true open world.

How many playable ships in Everspace 2? ›

Everspace 2 offers several different ships to pilot, but they all fall under three classes – Light, Medium and Heavy. There are nine ships in total, each with strengths, weaknesses, and Ultimates that make them worth trying.

There are three standard difficulties in Everspace: Easy, Normal, and Hard. There is also Hardcore, which is more like a different mode rather than a fourth difficulty, but is considered much harder than hard difficulty.

Combined with fast-paced 3D combat and exploration second-to-second gameplay in open space, on planet surfaces as well as underground, and supporting 1st person, 3rd person, and co*ckpit view, as well as meaningful endgame content, adds even more dimensions of complexity not found in your average shooter.

Like the first game, the story of Everspace 2 takes place in the Demilitarized Zone of Cluster 34, established after the Colonial - Okkar war, starting in the Ceto system. The DMZ is full of freelancers, outlaws, and Grady & Brunt Prospects mining operations.
