The genre-bending musical "Emilia Pérez," the postwar epic "The Brutalist" and the Vatican-set mystery "Conclave" dominated the list of film nominees for the 82nd Golden Globes announced early Monday, officially kicking off Hollywood's awards season.

In the best drama film category, "The Brutalist" and "Conclave" were joined by the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown," the science-fiction spectacle "Dune: Part Two," the literary adaptation "Nickel Boys" and the 1972-set thriller "September 5."

In the best comedy or musical film race, "Emilia Pérez" competes with the madcap romance "Anora," the steamy love triangle "Challengers," the family dramedy "A Real Pain," the body-horror satire "The Substance" and the smash-hit fantasy "Wicked."

("Wicked" and "Conclave" were released by units of NBC News' parent company, NBCUniversal.)

"Emilia Pérez" leads the pack of films, with 10 nods, though awards pundits still believe the fight for best picture at the Academy Awards in March remains wide-open.

Three performers scored double nominations: Sebastian Stan for the films “The Apprentice” and “A Different Man”; Selena Gomez for “Emilia Pérez” and the Hulu television series “Only Murders in the Building”; and Kate Winslet for the film “Lee” and the HBO miniseries “The Regime.”

Meanwhile, on the television side, leading contenders include FX's "Shōgun," a sweeping saga set in feudal Japan, and FX's "The Bear," a frenetic portrait of a Chicago restaurant. The two shows are critical favorites.

The nominees across 27 categories were announced at 8:15 a.m. ET by actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. The awards telecast is scheduled for Jan. 5 live on CBS and the streaming service Paramount+, with stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser set to host.

In addition to the usual procession of trophies and speeches, this year’s Globeswill honorsmall-screen mainstay Ted Danson with the Carol Burnett Award, a prize recognizing someone who has “made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen.”

Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis is also set to be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
